Insider tip
BER to City Centre Options
- Cheapest and fastest: train (see below for all options)
- Bus to Berlin city centre
- Taxi (Uber is currently not allowed to pick up at the airport)
- Carsharing
From BER Airport to City Centre by Train
Every 30 minutes, the Flughafen-Express (FEX) express train runs between BER and Berlin Hauptbahnhof (central station). The journey takes just 30 minutes and costs only €3.30. You need an ABC ticket, which you can buy via the BVG app or at ticket machines.
Besides FEX, other trains connect BER to the city centre:
- RB14 runs between BER and Nauen in northwest Berlin, stopping at Ostkreuz, Alexanderplatz, Hauptbahnhof, and Spandau. It's slightly slower than FEX but convenient if you're staying near Alexanderplatz.
- RE7 follows a similar route through Berlin but heads south after Charlottenburg, connecting Babelsberg and other Brandenburg towns. Also handy for Alexanderplatz.
RB14 and RE7 run hourly, so you'll never wait more than 15 minutes for a train to Hauptbahnhof.
If that's not enough, the S-Bahn also connects BER to the city centre. S9 and S45 run every 20 minutes.
From BER Airport to City Centre by Bus
Taking a bus from BER to the city centre is not recommended because you'll need to transfer. However, if trains are delayed or under construction, keep this as a backup. Buses are also the fastest option if you're staying in Neukölln, Rudow, Alt-Mariendorf, or other southern areas.
Tickets cost €3.30 (ABC zone) and can be bought via the BVG app. Bus connections include Expressbus X7 (to U-Bahnhof Rudow U7), X71, 163, 164, 171, 743, and 744.
Additionally, two premium express bus lines called "Airport Shuttles" (BER1 and BER2) connect Rathaus Steglitz and Potsdamer Hauptbahnhof to BER for an extra fee.
From BER Airport to City Centre by Taxi

The most convenient but most expensive option is a taxi. Follow signs to the taxi rank — you can't miss the queue of taxis outside the terminal (very German). Taxis have meters and will take the fastest route. A trip to the city centre costs around €40–50 and takes no more than 45 minutes (depending on traffic).
From BER Airport to City Centre by Carsharing

If you have carsharing apps like ShareNow, SixtShare, or Miles, you can rent a car and drive directly to your destination. ShareNow and SixtShare add €5–7 to cover airport parking fees. The advantage of carsharing in Berlin is that you can park for free within the S-Bahn ring (and some areas outside it). Just drive, park, and enjoy your time in Berlin.
