For Chinese students, Singapore offers a unique combination of English-language environment and Asian culture — with steadily intensifying admission competition in recent years.
## NUS and NTU Strength Subjects
**NUS**: Business (NUS Business School — especially Finance/Accounting), Law (NUS Law), Engineering (all departments strong), Science (Mathematics/Statistics/Physics), and Public Policy (Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy — top-ranked for government and international relations).
**NTU**: Engineering strengths (Electrical/Mechanical/Materials globally top-ranked), Sciences (Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry), Business (Nanyang Business School — high MBA recognition), and Communication & Information. The NTU AI Research Initiative has global influence in artificial intelligence.
## Applications and Visas
NUS and NTU both use independent application platforms, with deadlines typically December to February. Application materials: transcripts, English scores (IELTS/TOEFL), personal statement, recommendation letters; some programs additionally require written tests or interviews. Tuition approximately SGD 20,000-40,000/year (~100,000-200,000 RMB), living costs approximately SGD 18,000-24,000/year.
Graduates can apply for an Employment Pass (EP) to work in Singapore, and upon meeting requirements, apply for Permanent Residency (PR) and eventually citizenship. Singapore’s PR policy has tightened in recent years, but approval rates remain relatively high in skills-shortage sectors (STEM, finance).
